This residency is an opportunity for cartoonists/graphic novelists* to focus on their work and interact with accomplished peers. You may be ready to start a new piece, or come with a project that’s already underway. If you plan to come with work-in-progress, please bring work that is not so close to completion that you can’t benefit from critique or suggestion.
We will spend the earlier part of the day working on our projects and join later in the afternoon or evening for group discussion and critique. I’ll also meet regularly with individual artists.
* particularly “auteur” creators; those who are the author of both the images and textual elements of their work.
Your materials may be submitted in any of the following common file formats; .pdf, .jpg, .mp4, .mov, .mp3. If your combined files exceed 25 mb, please organize them in one discrete folder shared on dropbox or google drive and send the link with permission to download your submissions.
- 3-5 complete comics stories (1-30 pages each) -or- a graphic novel/comic book plus one separate story, 1-15 pages in length). Please compile each story into a single .pdf (don’t submit loose pages).
- 2-5 examples of non-comics work, such as painting, sculpture, film, short stories, music, manifestos, performance, academic articles, photography, journalism, etc.
- a one-page CV
- a one-page description of who you are and how you hope this residency will help you.
Accepted artists should bring the drawing tools they prefer. Please also bring a blank 5” x 7” sketchbook, a laptop, and a camera or other device with which you can take photographs. Bring examples of previous work (printed or projectable).
