Bearing Witness - A Creative Workshop for Bold Artists
Step into a powerful creative lab where history, art, and truth collide. In this workshop, artists will join Hannah Drake to dig deep into the urgent issues facing our nation today. Together, we will explore ways to create poetry and performance that speak truth, spark conversation, and push back against silence and erasure.
Drawing from historical narratives, poetry, dance, monologues, and personal storytelling, participants will shape new work that challenges injustice, honors our past, and imagines a more equitable future. This is a space for artists who are ready to create with courage, intention, and heart. Whether you are a writer, dancer, spoken-word artist, actor, or storyteller, you will leave with new tools, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of how art can shift culture.
If you are ready to create work that meets this moment, lifts voices, and refuses to be quiet, this is the workshop for you!
Application Requirements for Bearing Witness
- Submit three to five creative work samples Poetry, spoken word, monologues, dance excerpts, short performance clips, or narrative writing that reflect your artistic voice. These can be submitted written or via video.
- Provide a brief artist statement Share who you are as an artist, the themes you explore, and why you want to participate in Bearing Witness.
- Write a short reflection Describe one current national issue you feel compelled to explore and how you hope to engage it through your art.
- History has informed much of my work. How do you utilize history in your artistic practice? Share how historical narratives shape your creative approach, inspire your work, or influence the stories you feel called to tell.
- Confirm your commitment to collaboration Agree to work collaboratively with artists across disciplines including poetry, movement, and performance.

Residency Statement:
The Language of Creativity: Navigating Personal Creative Growth as a guitarist in the modern Music world
Guitar -intermediate to Advanced concepts with Sounds, Textures and Technique. pedalboard sets and gear
Production and Engineering, Narrowing down what you want to record and allowing yourself to record, how to capture the creativity. Microphones (if needed) DAW choices, Templates and Audio Interfaces.
We will be working on being the self inspired, self proficient and to finding, building that sacred space to allow the music to flow through then capturing it without self doubt, option paralysis (with so many choices in Guitar technology to the vastness of the modern day DAW And Being free to Jam, create and express yourself with others as we will Jam every day Monday through Friday evenings and most of all we'll have fun doing it all.

Residency Statement:
As a cohort of purpose-led makers, we will discuss the many crossovers and differences between art and design. We will identify how our individual practices exist and work on that spectrum. We will discuss existing projects and projects in the making, push meaning, connect materials, explore aesthetics, and increase impact. The best candidate for this residency would be either an artist looking to amplify the impact of their work’s purpose or a designer looking to use their purpose centered process to make art. I realize most of you are likely both artist and designer, but that there is a special fuel inside this fluidity that can be tapped into with deeper understanding.
This will be a low key, but very intentional residency.
There are no prerequisites required.

Candidates should provide a short bio, CV and work samples, as well as a letter of interest as to why they are responding to the above residency description. Specifically addressing what they hope to take back to their studio, or how they hope to leave the residency more prepared to move their practice forward.
